El Troubadors
El Troubadours open mic night is now online.
There will be live music, chat, ceoil agus craic live on Facebook on Wednesday nights and Sunday nights from 8.30 p.m.
The event usually takes place in person in Jim Doyle’s, hosted by Tom Dalton.
The artists will be on Zoom and the event goes out on Tom Dalton on Facebook and Celtic Grace Ireland on Instagram.
Tributes for deceased
This newspaper offers tribute pieces to bereaved family members within the local community who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one.
The service is available free of charge, and will be completed in a manner that is sensitive to your own personal wishes and requests.
Please contact the journalist whose details are listed above if this is something that interests you or is something you would like to do to honour the memory of your loved one who has recently passed away.
Postoffice hours
Ballywaltrim post office has introduced hours specifically for pensioners. They will be opening at 8 a.m. on Fridays during the pandemic to facilitate pensioners if they want to come early. The post office will close at 4.30 p.m.
Coronavirus stories

Over the next number of weeks, the Bray People will be highlighting how the Covid-19 crisis has been impacting the lives of everyone in County Wicklow. We’ll be covering everything from travel disruptions, cancellations of medical procedures, cancellations of weddings and parties to the challenges we are facing working from home, home schooling and in the coming weeks as restrictions begin to ease.
We would also like to hear about the many good-news stories out there as communities rally together to help the vulnerable in these unprecedented times and get creative as a means of keeping spirits up. Booksale
The monthly book sale service run by Shankill Day Care/ Shankill Old Folks Association has re-opened.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, it will be an email/phone order and collection service.
Readers can place an order for specific book titles or authors, and organisers will see if they are in stock, or request a specific genre.
All books are in pristine condition and competitively priced. They also have a selection of jigsaws and DVDs.

Organisers will then send a message to let the buyer know when to collect their books and the amount owing. They can then call to the Shankill Day Care Centre, Lower Road, Shankill D18 HW95, and pick them up between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesdays or Fridays.
They are not in a position to accept new books or take back any returns while the Covid-19 crisis is ongoing.
BrayArea Partnership
Bray Area Partnership is continuing to provide services in the local community during these difficult times – finding innovative ways to connect with people where meeting face-to-face is not possible for the time being – and is asking people to visit their website to find out what’s on offer at www. brayareapartnership.ie.
The website also features a handy Covid-19 Information and Resources page, with information on local and national contacts and resources under a wide range of different subject headings.
For jobseekers, the Partnership’s Local Employment Service has a Jobs in the Window display of job vacancies outside its office at 86 Main Street Bray and posts a list of local job vacancies on the Partnership’s website every Friday. Its Facebook page has regular posts on jobs and other opportunities. A new programme of online workshops for jobseekers started recently with ‘Manual Handling’.

Recycling centre
Bray recycling centre is open with revised opening hours.
The hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
People are asked to minimise their visits to the centre by waiting until they have a larger volume of waste, rather than frequent visits with small amounts of waste. Compressing the waste will help ensure no extra storage is required.
People are asked not to approach staff, and to put materials into the bins themselves. Staff will not be able to assist with carrying materials and will not take materials directly from members of the public. Public entry may be stopped for a few minutes throughout the day for cleaning.
Purple House
Purple House Cancer Support Centre has developed a Covid-19 support team to support cancer patients during Covid-19. To ensure that patients and families are supported, the organisation has moved all services to non-contact. These include telephone counselling by a team of IACP accredited counsellors and psychotherapists and hospital transport for chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
The centre will also be providing food hampers for patients who are isolating. The telephone support line 01 2866966 has been diverted remotely to ensure families living with cancer are supported.
Groups and classes will be held remotely thanks to software like Zoom, whereby patients can participate from the comfort of their own homes.

Gaelic for women
The Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others initiative invites women to play ladies Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment.
Players do not need to have played before and will get the opportunity to exercise in a fun way while meeting others in the local community. Participants must be 25 and older and not currently playing competitively.
Sessions take place on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. but are currently on hold.
Storytime at thelibrary
Storytime ‘As Gaeilge’ with Denise can be accessed on the Facebook page of Wicklow County Council Library Service, as well as story videos, crafts and more from libraries across the county. ‘It’s Story Time’ at Bray Library on Eglinton Road every Monday at 10 a.m. is cancelled for the moment.
Bridgeclub
Dargle bridge club plays every Wednesday night and is based in the Open Door premises on Vevay Road.
Meetings are cancelled for the time being and will resume in a number of weeks.

Cameraclub meetings
Bray Camera Club meetings at the Mermaid Arts Centre at 7.30 p.m. are cancelled for the moment.
Members’ images are shown at the meetings, and members learn new photographic skills and also take part in competitions. Bray Camera Club welcomes photographers of all levels as new members and can be contacted at secretary@ braycameraclub.ie.
GROW supportgroup
GROW Community Mental Health Movement meetings are on hold for the moment. They otherwise meet every Tuesday at 10.45 a.m. in the Parish Centre, Queen of Peace Church, Putland Road, Bray.

BrayCFR volunteers
Bray Cardiac First Responders would welcome any new volunteers or anyone interested in learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
While meetings are postponed for now, they normally meet on the first Thursday of every month in Sunbeam House at the Taylor Centre, Vevay Road. Call 086 2658455.
Bray Junior Parkrun
The Bray Junior Parkrun takes place on Sundays at 9.30 a.m. in People’s Park but is cancelled for the time being. The timed 2km run welcomes children aged from four to 14.
Volunteers deliveries
A group of volunteers have come together to offer community support to anyone in Kilmacanogue, Enniskerry and its surrounding areas.
The group includes volunteers from the GAA clubs, First Responders, Community Alert groups and other individual local volunteers.
They will collect and deliver groceries, prescriptions, fuel and other essentials; carry out any emergency maintenance jobs; give practical advice and be a listening ear if anyone needs a friendly chat.
