GETTING INTO THE SWING OF THINGS! Pre-application consultation over plans for a wind park
A PRE-APPLICATION consultation is taking place between An Bord Pleanála and Codling Wind Park Limited over plans for a wind park between Wicklow and Greystones. Codling Wind Park Ltd (CWPL) is a joint development partnership between Fred Olsen Renewables (FOR) and EDF Renewables (EDFR) with the aim of developing the Codling Wind Park offshore wind farm project, a major offshore development project, located in the Irish Sea off the east coast of County Wicklow.
The final MW output of the Codling Wind Park is not currently determined and is subject to further detailed environmental, technical and engineering design work including consideration of grid and turbine technologies, and future developments.
The Project will also require cable routes to export the electricity from offshore to an onshore grid connection point.
Significant advances in turbine technology combined with considerable cost reductions in the cost of energy from offshore wind means that the Codling Wind Park can be developed as one project with a much reduced number of turbines than originally planned, while optimising the site to deliver the maximum installed capacity. Codling Wind Park is in the development phase and is set to be a major contributor to Ireland’s renewable energy transition and 2030 targets.
CWPL hopes that the development and successful consenting of the project will lead to construction and commissioning in the mid 2020s.
A decision by An Bord Pleanála on the Strategic Infrastructure Development is due by November 23 of this year.
