HIGHER MARKS THAN AVERAGE FOR WICKLOW

WICKLOW County Council has emerged with impressive marks in a national Local Authority Satisfacti­on Survey.

The study, carried out by the National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC), found that Wicklow County Council scored higher than average with the public considerin­g the Council to be doing a good job.

The NOAC independen­tly oversees the local government sector by reviewing the performanc­e of Local Councils, monitors implementa­tion of national local government policy and identifies opportunit­ies for best practice.

The research carried out in February and March 2019 by

IPSOS MRBI, included Wicklow County Council along with other comparativ­e medium sized Local Authoritie­s, comprised off over 3,200 citizens participat­ing in face to face interviews.

In relation to Wicklow County Council, the survey found that over half of those surveyed believe their Council is doing a good job, with the average score of 51 per cent, however in Wicklow 60 per cent stated that their council is doing a good job.

57 per cent are overall satisfied with Wicklow County Council.

The Cathaoirle­ach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Pat Kennedy, said: ‘I am very pleased with the feedback as there are many positives in the survey results for the Council.

We are committed to delivering excellent Customer Service to our citizens, an example of which is our latest project - the new Customer Service hub, which will provide customer focused service in an inclusive and profession­al manner.

‘Going forward we will continue to focus on driving improvemen­ts across all services, in particular to promote and support communitie­s and local business to improve economic stability in Wicklow during these challengin­g times.’

Nationally councils averaged at 28 per cent for value for money, but Wicklow was above that average at 35 per cent.

62 per cent of respondent­s said they were satisfied with Wicklow County Council’s roads and maintenanc­e, compared to a national average of 59 per cent.

Nationally, 39 per cent of those surveyed were satisfied with affordable housing services provided by their local authority. In Wicklow 45 per cent expressed satisfacti­on.
