Wiktorski and O’Connor shine
ATHLETICS WICKLOW held their 5K Road Championships last Thursday close to Brittas Bay. The road race had been scheduled for last April and was postponed because of the lockdown due to Covid-19.
‘The Athletics Wicklow Co Board recognised the need for real competition both from a physical and wellbeing perspective for its 1,600-plus members of all ages and decided to look at ways working within the Government/HSE/Athletics Ireland guidelines on ways to deliver safe events for the Wicklow athletics community,’ said Dermot Brennan of Athletics Wicklow.
‘The proactive Co. Board following on from the success of its. Co Track and Field Championships delivered an excellent, safe road championships and this was matched by the high standard of competition on the night. The Co. Board wishes to thank all stakeholders who helped make this event a success,’ he added.
Bill Porter said that the 2020 Road Race Championships were the best in 30 years in his opinion and that the 120 runners who started the race took part in a very special event.
Bill said that it was a perfect night for running and that there were some entertaining battles especially in the men’s race and in the team placings. Parnell AC claimed all five team titles.
