Bray and Clara set to be a belter

-

CLARA will be riding a wave of momentum into this weekend’s intermediate football championship final against a similarly buoyant Bray Emmets. Both sides registered massive wins in their respective semi-finals two weeks ago.

On the one hand, Clara clinically swept aside St. Nicholas’ in Roundwood, with Naoise Baker (2), Lisa Tully, Lauren Carter, Sarah Miley (2), and substitute Kim Baker put their opponents to the sword in ruthless fashion in a 7-12 to 2-6 win. It is the kind of statement scoreline that will see to it that Clara will well fancy their chances of claiming the intermediate crown and making the jump up to senior.

Opposing them will be a Bray side that demonstrated the guts and resilience of prospective champions to overcome a 1-7 to 1-5 deficit at the half-time break and march to an impressive 3-14 to 1-11 win over the gallant Tinahely. Lauren Rowe was the star of the show with a brace of goals, including one penalty, helping the North Wicklow troops to a well-earned win, with Juliette Fortune getting the other goal.It all sets the stage for a

tantalising prospect of a decider between two sides who will be well up for the task. Tinahely have made it their business to lead the county in promoting young talent in ladies football, which goes further towards making Bray’s win that bit more impressive. Meanwhile,

Clara will be fancied to do a job courtesy of the confidence with which they will be playing following their seven-star showing.

The action gets underway at 2.30pm in Baltinglass this Saturday afternoon.
