Bray estates left off list

September 2005

FIVE Bray housing estates which were up for consideration to be taken in charge by Wicklow County Council have been left off the list for inclusion.

Local councillors said that there were a number of outstanding issues affecting one estate in particular and they wanted to ensure that the matters were addressed before the council took over.

The 10 estates which were to be considered at Monday’s meeting included Earlscroft, Hollybrook, Oakglen, Riddlesford and Swanbrook in Bray along with Easton and Poplars in Delgany, Heathervue in Greystones, Huntsbury in Kilquade and Willow Bank in Blacklion.

Cllr Joe Behan said that there had been no submission from any of the estates except from the residents of Earscroft in Bray. However, he said there were issues with other estates in the past.

The people in Earlscroft had problems which he said he had been dismissed by the council. He proposed that the taking in charge of the Bray estates should be put back so the five issues raised could be discussed. He also wanted to ensure that the other residents’ associations had no problems. Cllr George Jones proposed that the taking in charge of the Greystones and Delgany estates go ahead as some had been there for a very long time.

Planning director Bryan Doyle said that when estates were taken in charge, the problems became the responsibility of the county council. This did not inspire confidence in Cllr Behan who said that the concerns of the residents of Earlscroft had already been dismissed by the council and they could be dismissed again.
