A mixed bag of results this weekend for the Glens. The senior team were in their first ever Jim McLaughlin Premier Cup Final against Newtown in Arklow and lost 3-0. The Glens edged a tight first half chances wise but conceded a goal just before the break which saw a few heads drop. Newtown were the far better side in the second half and fully deserved their win, well done the Magpies. The glens will lick their wounds and prepare for the coming season starting in October and would like to thank everyone for their continued support and messages of goodwill before and after the game on Sunday.

There was better news of the under-15s however on Sunday. They had a fantastic win over an Ashford Rovers team that are the current champions. The Glens hit the bar in the first have and were unlucky not to go one nil up early in the second half before Ashford scored but Michael Prendergast equalised. Ashford were awarded a penalty with five minutes left and again like last week, Charlie Ward made an excellent save. With just two minutes to go, Kieran Griffith played a lovely ball to Finn Kelly, who finished superbly giving the glens a 2-1 victory. Everyone one in the team put in a great performance. Well done to all on what was a great game of football.

The under-10s travelled to Coolboy and suffered a heavy defeat. It was 2-2 at halftime but Mick Rooney and Paul Devlins half time speech did not work and glens conceded six second half goals without reply.

Paddy Merrigan’s under-11s are back in action and put in a great performance over Enniskeery. The goals were flying in with Hatricks for Tadhg Reynolds, Ben Merrigan, Matthew Meakin, and braces for Darragh Murray, James Ward and Killian Kearns. Well done to Enniskerry also who battled to the end.

The under-13s were without their regular goalkeeper who fell sick before the game and they lost 6-3 to high flying Avonmore but manager Alan Condon was delighted with his team’s efforts throughout.
