Arklow transport study set to begin

-

A traffic assessment for the Arklow area is due to get under way in the coming weeks.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Wicklow County Council had secured funding from the National Transport Authority (NTA) to carry out a survey of transport and traffic in the Arklow town area.

In recent days, traffic strips have been installed on a number of roads around Arklow including Dublin Road, Wexford Road, Bridge Street, Lower Main Street and Main Street. These monitor traffic volumes on roads. It’s understood that the traffic study is being conducted by a business based in County Wicklow.

A spokesperson for Wicklow County Council said it was discussing the scope of the assessment with the NTA.

‘ The NTA has provided €70,000 in funding to carry out a transport assessment for the Arklow area. The scope for the assessment is nearing agreement with the NTA with the intention to seek consultants to carry out the assessment in the coming weeks.’

The aims of the transport study are likely to look for ways to address traffic congestion in the town.
