Chance to become a track and trail guide
BALTINGLASS Outdoor Education and training centre is launching a Track and Trail traineeship aimed at providing applicants with the skills and knowledge to become walking guides.
All trainees receive the tuition and supports they need to prepare them for the final assessments, which will allow them to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions.
Enrolment takes place in September, with interviews due to be held in October. The course starts on November 3 and will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 16 weeks. The programme includes a work placement module, where trainees will experience on the job training and gain from the experience and expertise in the network of adventure activity and education providers around the country.
The modules covered are delivered by expert and experienced staff include a Low Land Leader Award, navigational skills, Leave No Trace, rescue emergency care first aid, child safeguarding, manual handling and careers and planning.
Trainees will also have some hours in the classroom, however
most of the training is practical.
