Week of Sport to get under way in county
People in Wicklow are being encouraged to get active for European Week of Sport 2020.
The event, which runs from September 23 to 30, will see a mixture of online and offline events available to cater to the needs of every member of the community making it easy to #BeActive even from the comfort of your own front room.
Sport Ireland, the National Co-ordinating Body for European Week of Sport, hope that this year’s event will inspire even more people than ever to get involved and has funded multiple flagship as well as local events run by the Network of Local Sports Partnerships. The Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership have organised events in the Garden County.
European Week of Sport aims to increase the level of participation in sport and physical activity in the EU. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background, or fitness level. By bringing awareness to the fact that an active lifestyle is for everyone, European Week of Sport aims to act as a springboard to being more active.
Speaking about the event,
the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Councillor Pat Kennedy, said: ‘ The European Week of Sport is a fantastic week within the year where people across the county get to try out something new. Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership have a wide range of activities for everyone and I am encouraging everyone to get involved.’

ation Partnership is running numerous events during the European Week of Sport, from online nutrition talk with Daniel Davey to Virtual 5K Walk/Run. The week will finish up with an online sunset yoga class.
Week of Sport ambassador and 2fm radio presenter, Eoghan McDermott, said: ‘ This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to try out a new sport for the first time or get
back involved in a sport that they have always loved. It’s not about going out and being the best, we just want people to get out and be active which will no doubt see a positive knock on effect on both their physical and mental health.’
