Historian seeks local memorabilia for a new book
HISTORIAN Chris Lawlor is seeking memorabilia such as old photos, documents and medals to help with research into his latest book on the Dunlavin area.
Chris is a historian and retired secondary school teacher living in Dunlavin. He holds an MA from Maynooth and a PhD from DCU, and has written many other history books, articles and essays.
He is currently researching the period 1900 to 1925 in the Dunlavin area and is looking for any memorabilia that would both help with his research, and which could be included in the book, and credited to the owners. Chris can photograph them so they can be used for illustrations. Nothing will be shared or published without the consent of the owners.
He is particularly interested in anything relating to village life, the Women’s Suffrage movement, the Labour movement, Home Rule, the Volunteers, Cumann na mBan, World War One, the 1916 Rising, the 1918 general election, local elections, the War of Independence
and the Civil War. Photos from the era he is covering would also be much welcome, as would any local stories from that period.
In 2018 Chris published a book entitled ‘With Much Quiet Fervour’ which covered the history of Dunlavin Roman Catholic parish and St. Nicholas of Myra church, which is over 200 years old.
If any person-to-person meetings are required, social distancing and face coverings will be used.
Chris may be emailed at lawlorcm@hotmail.com or telephoned on 087 9321737.
