CSO figures show 42 deaths linked to Covid in Co Wicklow

DATA from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) has shown that there have been 42 deaths related to Covid-19 in Wicklow between February 28 and September 18.

The CSO’s ‘Covid-19 Insight Bulletins: Deaths and Cases, Series 12’ complies data from the Computeris­ed Infectious Disease Reporting (CIDR) by the Health Protection Surveillan­ce Centre and data from the HSE’s Covid Care Tracker (CCT) system. It covers the period from February 28 to September 18.

The informatio­n shows the median or middle age of the Covid-related deaths in Wicklow within that seven-month period is 82. The CSO analysis, which is based on the date of death, records no confirmed deaths relating to Covid-19 in Wicklow between June 19 and September 18.

The data also shows that 856 positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the Garden County over the same period with the median age of cases is 47.

The report highlighte­d that the week ending September 18 was the third week in a row that Wicklow had recorded more than 20 new cases with a total of 36. For the previous week ending Friday, September 11, 54 positive cases of Covid-19 were reported, the highest weekly total of new cases in Wicklow over the period between June 19 and September 18.

Wicklow recorded roughly three per cent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland since February 28.

The analysis shows that Dublin has been hit hardest by Covid-19 with 783 deaths out of the national total of 1,792 deaths recorded for the capital. Of the 33,084 positive Covid-19 cases recorded for Ireland up to September 18, 15,760 were linked to Dublin.
