Kern to perform at the Whale Theatre
Folk favourites Kern bring their unique sound to the Whale Theatre this weekend.
Front and centre for this Saturday’s show will be songs from the band’s second album ‘ The Left and the Leaving’.
The band is an eclectic mix that includes Barry Kieran, a former Leinster champion fiddler; Brendan McCreanor, an uilleann piper of rare passion and versatility; and SJ McArdle, who is a critically acclaimed songwriter and singer who has previously toured and recorded internationally.
Kern’s music has been described as a distillation of skillfully executed traditional elements – including a deep respect for native songlines – combined with fresh and often raw contemporary perspectives. The band presents wonderful interpretations of the music of the past along with blistering new songs and compositions.
The Left and the Leaving was produced by Trevor Hutchinson and features the Lúnasa/ Waterboys man on double bass throughout. There are also appearances by Dónal O’Connor (Ulaid, At First Light) and Eamonn Moloney (Full Set, Aoife Scott).
Kern have been hard at work since their first album’s release, clocking up shows around Ireland and in Germany, Canada and the US. The band also had a sell-out showcase concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2019 and appeared on Fleadh TV, RTE Radio 1’s John Creedon Show, Raidio na Gaeltachta and Other Voices.
Tickets for the show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, cost €15 and are available from the Whale Theatre.
