COLÁISTE CHRAOBHABHANN EUROPEAN LANGUAGE WEEK

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann celebrated European Languages’ Week from September 21 to September 25.

This week we celebrated European Languages Week in CCA the theme for this year’s European Languages Week was ‘Languages for Life’.

We have many students who speak different mother tongues. We wanted to help them celebrate their linguistic heritage and encourage them to see the beauty of a multilingual society.

There were several activities and opportunities for students to partake in during the week. Below are some of the highlights.

Transition Year students prepared digital posters for the social media channels to promote Languages for Life.

Students took part in a Vlog competition entitled My European Language. All year groups were welcome to enter and there was a junior and senior category. The winning Vlog demonstrated the student’s own use of the language to introduce themselves.

There was a first year quiz in class time in the language classes.

Second years will took part in a song competition and Spelling Bee in class with their language teachers.

TY students visited all assemblies to address students in the various languages studied here in CCA.

Well done to all involved.

STGERARD’S SCHOOL LEAVING CERT RESULTS 2020

Congratulations to all our students in the Leaving Certificate Class of 2020. The results this year represent an outstanding achievement for all concerned.

The average achieved by this Leaving Certificate group is 467 CAO points per student. 40% of the students attained in excess of 500 points with four students attaining results in excess of 600 points. 91% of the student group achieved in excess of 350 points.

St Gerard’s School is proud of our mixed ability ethos and we are delighted to celebrate the successes of all our students. The holistic development of our students is equally important to their academic progress, so that we can continue to produce young men and women who are educated, thinking and caring individuals.

The class of 2020 will now embark on the next stage of their journey as they commence their chosen courses of study in a variety of Universities and Colleges nationally and internationally.

We wish them well in the knowledge that the spirit of St Gerard’s School will remain with them forever as they strive to be the best that they can be, and that ‘Memor’, to be mindful of others, will be forever present in their hearts.

We wish the class of 2020 every suc

TRANSITION YEAR NEWS

It has been great to get our TYs up and running during these strange and challenging times. Last week they took part in ‘Develop Me’ workshops. Develop Me specialise in bringing experiential learning (learning through reflection and doing) training into the classroom. Through experiential learning, the focus for our

TYs was on two critical areas for students today: project management and effective teamwork. The day was a tremendous success with everyone feeling a great benefit from the day.

Also last week our TYs spent a day in Kilruddery Estate taking part in the Alive Outside experience. Situated in Kilruddery Estate, the day involves a host of outdoor activities ranging from bushcraft and outdoor survival skills, archery and water sports – including kayaking and a water jump. Wonderful day, wonderful weather and great to be outdoors in the fresh air.
