Works to remove debris from weir
WICKLOW Municipal District has commenced works to fix the damaged weir in Ashford.
The weir in the Vartry River was badly damaged during Storm Frank in December 2015 and has remained in a state of disrepair ever since, resulting in a build-up of debris.
During last week’s Wicklow Municipal District meeting, District Engineer Kevin Scanlon said local authority officials had meet with representatives from Inland Fisheries Ireland prior to the start of the works. Debris will be removed from the weir with the works due to take a few days to complete. Cllr Shay Cullen welcomed the works.
‘I know only a certain amount of work will be
carried out this time but it’s a start. I just want to make sure we get as much work carried out as possible while we are there,’ he said.
