Activities planned as part of Social Inclusion Week

-

SOCIAL Inclusion Week in County Wicklow will run from Saturday to Friday, October 17 to 23 in an effort to ensure everyone in society has an equal chance of a good quality life.

The week-long event is about treating people equally regardless of their background, making sure people have equal access to goods and services, removing barriers and helping those that may need it more, for example older persons, disabled persons, minority groups, the unemployed, and so on. It also aims to target resources where they are most needed, and to challenge discrimination, change attitudes and ways of working.

A number of organisations working in the area of social inclusion are collaborating to organise and run events across the county that will showcase Wicklow’s rich diversity, highlight the supports that are available to ensure that all citizens feel equally valued.

Helen Howes, Co Wicklow PPN Resource Worker, said: ‘Co Wicklow PPN is delighted to be working with a number of support agencies and community groups for social inclusion week. Some of the activities will be held online, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the current health crisis doesn’t have any last-minute impacts on some of the wonderful physical activities being planned for the week.’

Wicklow PPN will keep people updated on events and how to access them through their usual online channels. A list of events will be advertised soon.

If any groups are running activities with a social inclusion focus during the week or in October and would like them advertised widely across the county, contact Co Wicklow PPN at countywicklowppn@ gmail.com.
