Future projects in Greystones look at funding opportunities
JAMES Hennessy from Hogarth Consulting gave members of Greystones Municipal District a presentation on the public realm plan for Greystones.
The plan was formed after several public consultations and reflects feedback from the community from the process.
There are several projects which will be identified over the next few years to be funded and rolled out. James presented the main findings which are on greystones.ie (linked above). He stressed that this is the public realm plan as designed by the public; it hasn’t just been dreamt up in an office.
There was a recurring theme about the unique, understated character of the town but concerns expressed by the public about the development, and changes associated with this.
The plan which received Leader funding assistance, sets out to provide a strategy for funding opportunities, setting out aims and objectives for sustainably managing the future development and the quality and consistency of public realm for the town, while maintaining its unique character and identity.
Five project thematic areas are crafted into the plan, for the overall study area, in response to extensive analysis and public engagement - Streetscapes, Seascape, Heritage and Community, Green Growth and Town Gateways.
The making of the plan involved a public process involving various interest groups.
At the conclusion of the presentation, Cllr Gerry Walsh acknowledged the input of Greystones 2020 Chairperson, Grainne McLaughlin to the plan, which will act as a blueprint for the development of Greystones in the coming years.
