Events calledoff for2020

-

Arklow Positive Ageing have cancelled their planned social night on Friday, October 9 following the move to Level 3 restrictions.

The group’s latest social event had been due to take place at the Midway Bar and Restaurant on the Main Street in the town, however, this was cancelled following the Government’s announcement on Monday.

The move to tighten restrictions nationwide has cast further doubt over the group’s activities for the rest of the year. At the time of going to print, the planned holiday to Sligo is still scheduled to go ahead. However, the Christmas party and other day trips are now very unlikely to take place. Covid-19 restrictions also led to the decision to cancel this year’s Arklow Positive Ageing Week.

A spokesperson for Arklow Positive Ageing said, ‘we haven’t been able to hold events for most of the year and that’s having a big impact. Our members and the people of Arklow look forward to our day trips’.

The committee of the local social group plans to continue to support its members by making calls to check on anyone who is self-isolating. They are also working with the Arklow Community Action Resource Centre to make food drops to some members and to deliver prescriptions.

‘We urge everyone to keep safe, mind their wellbeing and support local businesses if they can,’ the spokesperson added.
