U16 12-A-SIDE CAMOGIE

AVONDALE

ÉIRE ÓG GREYSTONES 5-7 1-3

THIS competition was set up to give clubs in Wicklow unable to field in the 15-a-side championship an opportunity to play competitive games.

The final was played in Pearse’s Park last Saturday before a very appreciative but Covid-19 limited audience.

This was a competitive match on the pitch but this is not reflected in the score line.

Avondale were the better all-round squad and had an imperious full-back in team captain Thea Cullen - she got lots to do and was the main obstacle to Éire Óg scoring.

Time and time again as Éire Óg neared the goal Thea emerged - sliotar in hand - to deliver a relieving clearance.

With the scoring threats of Abby and Skye Byrne at the other end, Avondale found it easier to convert their chances. Isobel O‘Sullivan and Siobhan Darcy worked tirelessly for Éire Óg but found it hard to make any sustained progress against an Avondale side strong in all positions across the field.

The cup was presented to a delighted Thea Cullen, Avondale captain, by County Chairperson Ivor Lehane.
