WICKLOW RFC’S under-16 girls (made up of girls born in 2005/2006) have made a strong start to the season competing in the South East League.

The first game of the season was at home to Wexford Wanderers RFC who have always proved to be strong opponents and that match was no different with the Wicklow girls coming out on top.

Wicklow then arranged a midweek friendly match against near neighbours Greystones who play in the Metro League. Played under floodlights on a wet night, Wicklow proved too strong and came out on top despite not playing to their potential.

On Saturday, Wicklow travelled down the M11 to play ARGO under16s in Gorey RFC in their second match in the South East League. ARGO are a combined team from Arklow RFC and Gorey RFC

Played in bright sunshine with a strong breeze, Wicklow started strongly and soon led 0-7. Never letting ARGO settle, Wicklow soon scored again to lead by 0-14. The Wicklow defence was proving too disciplined and further scores were added without reply; 0-26 at

half-time.

Wicklow were using their squad very effectively and they ran in further tries to leave the final score reading ARGO 0, Wicklow 55. This performance was a big improvement on the previous match with good lines of running, crisp passing and a strong defence the key improvements.

Plenty of rugby to come for this group with fixtures against Tullow, Enniscorthy, Kilkenny and New Ross in the coming weeks.
