Impressive Villagers too strong for gallant Carnew side

-

RATHNEW ran out comfortable winners when going on a five-goal rampage in their defeat of Carnew at Shamrock Park in the U16 Advertiser Shield last Saturday afternoon.

From the get go we could see the Rathnew youngsters had plenty of pace and were very comfortable on the ball.

It only took 15 minutes before we got our first goal of the contest, that from a wonder strike by Ryan O’Neill.

Carnew attempted to clear the ball after an opposition cross, the clearance was met with a beautiful half volley by O’Neill just inside the box, a beautiful finish meant we had our first goal of the afternoon.

It wasn’t long before they doubled their lead. This time the goal was scored by Scott Devlin as he beat two defenders before driving it past goalkeeper Will Molloy.

Left-back Cillian McAllister was really impressive as he looked threatening when bombing his way up the field. It was 2-0 at the half-time interval.

The hosts would completely dominate the second half, creating chance after chance.

Credit must be given to the opposition goalkeeper Will Molloy who pulled of some great saves on the day. If it wasn’t for the young shot stopper the deficit may have been far greater.

During the game we saw glimpses of Luca Molamphy who looked like he could be a real danger-man for the Carnew side, getting one or two opportunities throughout the game, although he wasn’t getting enough service to really impact the score-line.

Rathnew, who were impressive winners on Saturday.

Both Jack Gregory and Oisin Kelly has massive performances being very lively running up and down the flanks at pace all game, proving too much for the Carnew defence to handle.

The two players linked up to score the third goal. Jack Gregory would put a ball across the box finding Oisin Kelly for his first score of the afternoon.

It was only a couple of minutes later when he added his second of the game.

Scott Devlin was breaking at speed before his shot whacked against the far post, however Oisin Kelly capitalised on the rebound as he placed the ball back in the

opposition net. 4-0 was the score.

Ethan Power put the icing on the cake as he launched a rocket of a shot ultimately smashing the back of the net making it 5-0 to his team as they overpowered a trying Carnew outfit.
