LOCAL Enterprise Office Wicklow will run an online training course next month on effective human resource (HR) management for SMEs.

The workshop will focus on the essential requirements that SMEs need to address in terms of successfully and effectively managing their human resources.

As a general statement, most SMEs do not pay sufficient attention to their human resources obligations. Consequently, HR matters only tend to get visibility when things go wrong.

It has never been more important for businesses to recruit and retain the right staff, keep them engaged and motivated to do their best work. With the right talent and development, a company can not only beat the competition but also grow its market share.

The workshop will tackle the requirements that SMEs need to address in terms of effectively managing HR. It will also offer practical advice by providing a summary of key employment legislation and an overview of HR management today.

Participants will learn about developing core HR policies and procedures and what to watch out for, and how to create a positive and effective working environment and team culture. Advice will be provided on dealing with problem staff and managing under performance and handling conflict. Information will also be provided on how to manage your employees in a Covid business environment and what to watch out for in terms of remote working.

The online workshop costs €30 and will take place on Wednesday, November 11 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Part one is human resource management; part two is about employment law; part three is about practical HR for SMEs and Covid and remote working; and part four will look at effective HR leadership and management.
