COLÁISTE CHRAOBH ABHANN
MATHS WEEK
Maths Week will take place from Monday, October 12, to Friday,
October 9. There will be many events taking place throughout the week. Please speak to a member of the Match Department for further information, or if you wish to be chosen for the organising team for this week long event.
GREEN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE
Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s 2020 Green Schools committee will be selected next week. Students with a passion for the environment and who have ideas on how to improve the sustainability within our school and local community are invited to submit their names in the Green Box at reception. Alternatively, you may speak to the coordinator of Green Schools, Ms Byrne, to express your interest.
This is a great opportunity to take an active part in the future direction of our school, and helping implement school policy on environment issues while working with a vibrant team of like-minded people.
CCA OPEN NIGHT
Due to current restrictions we were not in a position to have the usual great turnout from our local community attending Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s Open Night 2020.
Open Night is one of the highlights in our school calendar year where our staff and students promote what CCA has to offer through presentations, live performance, guided tours and class based demonstrations.
This year our prefect team created a virtual tour of the school, showcasing the various subject departments and the excellent facilities in CCA. We also were delighted to have past pupil Konrad Olszewski, director of day.
Dream Films, creat an impressive 360 Virtual Tour. The tours are available to view on the schools website and provide our visitors a snapshot of what makes Coláiste Chraobh Abhann a school that nurtures an excellent learning environment where mutual respect prevails.
TRANSITION YEAR NEWS
Our transition year students have had a great start to the year. This week they headed to Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre for their bonding trip. They faced their fears in the water and on the climbing tower and completed a variety of activities during the day. Huge thanks to the coordinator Mr Ryan and the TY team for the organisation of this excellent trip.
STUDY SKILLS SEMINAR
Our third and fifth year students were provided with a study skills seminar this week. The tipics covered were.
The Brain and Learning – How to accelerate student learning through whole-brain learning activities.
Growth Mindset and Resilience – The importance of a positive attitude to learning and study.
Study – The effective POKER system, note-making techniques and the five x five Revision system.
Memory techniques – Simple mnemonic techniques to aid memory.
The feedback from both seminars was excellent and the students gained many skills and techniques for the years ahead.
PRODIGY LEARNING CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
CCA is delighted to receive another award, recognising our fantastic school as a Prodigy Learning Centre of Excellence 2019-2020. The award is presented to schools that continuously deliver a high volume of digital skills certifications at a high standard. Well done to the ICT team and the students.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH AWARDS
This week all year groups present the student of the month awards in recognition of the hard work, commitment shown during the past month. Well done to all the students.
