Tinahely face long wait
WICKLOW LGFA Senior football champions Tinahely must wait until January before contesting their second Leinster decider on the trot, this one against Carlow side Old Leighlin.
The big clash will be held on Saturday, January 16, with Tinahely hoping to go at least one step further than last year when they bowed out at the hands of Offaly champions, Naomh Ciaran.
‘Leinster LGFA, as with all counties and provinces, have had to follow the guidelines given by the National Management Committee of LGFA and the GAA last Monday. The proposal to postpone was discussed at length at National Management and regretfully our provincial finals have had to be deferred,’ said a statement from Leinster LGFA last weekend.
‘Leinster LGFA are committed to the safe organisation of our deferred Provincial Club finals and to that end following a meeting of Leinster Council Executive Management last night it was unanimously agreed that it would be best to schedule a new date for these finals. We have therefore agreed to set the dates for our Leinster Junior and Intermediate Club finals for Saturday, 16th with our Leinster Senior final on Sunday, January 17, 2021. These dates are provisional as we must follow whatever public health guidelines are in place at that time. Details on times and venues will be announced nearer the dates.
‘Leinster LGFA regret that we cannot provide a closer date. However, we felt it was unfair to ask the participating clubs to continue to prepare for an unknown date in the future while some of their players are also trying to prepare at inter county level. We hope that this is a fair and acceptable solution in the current circumstances.
‘We continue to ask all members to adhere to all health guidelines and we hope members are safe and well and continue to do so in these unusual times for us all,’ it added.
