Sinn Féin has new Wicklow candidates

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

ABBIE O’Loughlin of Rathnew and Anthony Hill of Wicklow town have both been selected as the Sinn Féin candidates to contest the upcoming local elections for Wicklow East.

Both candidates are running for the first time and Deputy John Brady described them as “young, vibrant, and committed to their local area.”

Abbie is currently in her final year studying history and politics at UCD. She is an active member of the GAA and has played for Rathnew Ladies GAA.

Anthony is employed as a social care worker, supporting adults with autism. He is also volunteers with young people.

Abbie said: “I am very passionate about my community, and I believe that Sinn Féin has the energy, leadership, and vision to bring about real change in Wicklow. I want to see more resources being put in place locally for our young people. I will be looking for recreational and sports facilities in the area.

“As a young person, I want to build a life within my community, I want to help end the need for young people to emigrate. I want to have the opportunity to own my own home in my own community, with access to proper services and amenities.”

Anthony said: “I want to echo Abbie’s comments and say how proud I am to be selected as part of our two-person team here in the Wicklow East constituency to contest the local elections this coming June.

“I entered politics to help create more opportunities that empower our young people. To help them to grow into active members of society and to realise their full potential.

“I want to see my community prosper. To be a place where young people can be optimistic about their futures. I am determined to bring about real and positive change in our local community through action not just words.”

Deputy Brady wished both candidates well in the upcoming elections, adding: “Both Abbie and Anthony are committed to their local communities. And offer the opportunity to Wicklow East to elect two strong advocates for the area. They are candidates of real potential.”
