Cllr Anne Ferris asks where Government parties were as crowds protest Gaza violence

- By TOM GALVIN

THE North Wicklow Against Genocide group, which held demonstrations at Blacklion, in Greystones, recently, mounted a rally at Bray Town Hall, last Saturday, February 24, “to raise awareness” about the ongoing Israeli-Gaza conflict.

The group said the rally was in response to calls from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), which had urged a day of local action in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

Councillor Anne Ferris was in attendance at the event and questioned why there weren’t more public representatives from the Government parties present.

“I was delighted to be able to attend the protest at the Bray Town Hall last Saturday in support of the people of Gaza,” commented Cllr Ferris.

“There was a very good turnout at the event with people from both the local area and from outside of Bray. I have to admit, however, that I didn’t see any public representatives from the government parties and I was disappointed that they didn’t come out to show their solidarity with Palestine.

“The population of Gaza is experiencing the worst annihilation possible, with people seeing their loved ones massacred and witnessing small children starving from the lack of food. We feel so helpless here in Ireland not to be able to do more to help, so the least we can do is to turn out at protests in an effort to show our support for all those suffering in Gaza,” she added.

The rally in Bray came a week after an event which saw tens of thousands of people attend a march in Dublin, calling for an end to the conflict.
