Éire Óg’s Kane fills vacant assistant secretary position
WICKLOW GAA have successfully filled the position of assistant secretary that was left vacant at Convention last year following the stepping away from the role of Hollywood’s Paul Wilson.
Stepping into the role is Brian Kane from the Éire Óg Greystones club who was ratified at last Thursday evening’s county board meeting on Zoom.
Also ratified at that meeting was the new Wicklow GAA coaching officer Owen Doyle who departed the position of hurling officer at
Convention having spent five years in that role.
Doyle is currently charged with overseeing operations in Ballinakill and was praised for his efforts in that regard by Wicklow GAA Chairman Damien Byrne at the recent Garden County awards night.
CHAIRMAN of the CC Martin Fitzgerald said that his body were not recommending a proposal from Barndarrig GAA Club that would see their hurling team remain at Junior level after they won the Junior hurling championship and league in 2023.
“The CCC are not recommending. If you win a Junior championship and league, the CCC are recommending that you go up. That’s our recommendation. It’s up to Barndarrig to fight their case if they want to stay Junior,” he added.
Barndarrig were asked to speak on the matter but there were no delegates from the Kilmacurra club on the meeting.
Martin Fitzgerald said that the CCC were proposing that Barndarrig compete in Intermediate hurling championship and league. This was seconded by a delegate from the floor and passed.
A counter-proposal was called for, but none were voiced.
