CONFUSION over affiliating teams for the Division 4 competition resulted in a flurry of emails from clubs last Thursday, according to CCC Chairman Martin Fitzgerald who then went on to list the teams in the two groups for the season ahead.

“We’re going to play Division 4 in two groups. We’re going to divide it by the mountains. Group 1 is Knockananna, Kilbride, Donard-The Glen, Hollywood, Baltinglass, Blessington and Kiltegan. Group 2 is Rathnew, Carnew Emmets, Ashford, Annacurra, Newtown, Bray Emmets, Avondale and Newcastle.

The games will be played on a Thursday night with fixtures starting on Thursday, April 4.

Fitzgerald then moved on to Division 5 which he informed delegates was being divided into two groups following recommendations from the CCC.

He said that Group 1 consists of Stratford-Grangecon, Valleymount, Annacurra, Ballymanus, Tinahely, Shillelagh-Coolboy and Aughrim. Group 2 is made up of Kilmacanogue, Laragh, Avoca, Enniskerry, An Tóchar, Éire Óg Greystones, Kilcoole and AGB.

The Blessington delegate suggested that his club were considering putting a team into the Division 5 competition but said he would confirm and get back.

Martin Fitzgerald said that another team would even things up.

“Everybody plays one another and there are quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final,” he said when asked about the make up of the competition.

He also confirmed that Division 4 would be the same.

He told delegates that the CCC were not recommending starting the Junior championships until after the Senior, Intermediate and Junior championships had started so that clubs will have a better idea of numbers.
