Sargent taking a break due to health issue

scommon leading at half-time by 1-11 to 1-7.

Wicklow began the second half like men on a mission and worked tirelessly at pressurising the Roscommon puck-out.

Three frees from Germaine, one each from play from Brandon Ryan and Davy Maloney brought Wicklow into the lead for the first time and Roscommon looking to be on the ropes.

In the 56th minute Roscommon would finally get their first goal of the half. Murray plucked a ball out of the sky, he struck for goal and hit the crossbar, but Fallon tapped it in to put the Rossies back in front.

Moments later he added a free, but this was responded to well by another Germaine free.

Wicklow were still working like dogs; however, they were quite wasteful with possession as a number of shots went wide or were hit right at the Roscommon keeper, Brendan Quinn.

The fight never left the Garden County men as they continued to compete for every ball and were not allowing any easy chances to fall in breaks as they pushed for the score to get the game level.

In added time the hard work fi

nally paid off for the inexperienced side as Germaine was given the task of converting two frees to level the game, and he showed great composure to level it up.

In the dying moments, Roscommon got a free in the middle of the field which would surely win the game if converted, but, uncharacteristically, Fallon dropped it short and Dylan Byrne charged out of defence with the ball and cleared with the final whistle sounding shortly afterwards,

BRIEF

EAST COAST FM sports presenter and Blessington GAA delegate Michael Sargent informed delegates at last Thursday evening’s county board meeting that he will be “out of action” for several months as he deals with a “medical issue” that he has to attend to.

“In the meantime, since I’m Chairman of Hearings, I want to propose that Colm Doyle from Kiltegan stands in for me while I’m out of action, and in the case of Audit and Risk where I’m chairman as well, that John O’Neill from Annacurra will stand in for me.

“I just wanted to say to the delegates that it will be in safe hands with Colm and John, and Lucy Mooney will keep the show on the road.

“I’ll be off the radio as well for a period,” he added.

County Chairman Damien Byrne wished Michael Sargent well and he said that all in Wicklow GAA hoped everything went well for him.
