‘Motherhood is hard but she’s the love of my life’

Bray native Bláthnaid Treacy has said motherhood is “hard work” but is the “most amazing thing” that has ever happened to her.

The RTÉ presenter welcomed her first child Nancy last year with her husband jazz musician Charlie Moon.

While speaking at the Platinum VIP Style Awards, she said: “It’s hard, but it’s also the most amazing thing that you’ll ever do as well.”

“It’s hard to describe, she’s the love of my life and it’s hard work,” she said. “It is hard but I’m loving it - she is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me.”

Bláthnaid is last year’s winner of the Most Stylish Newcomer category at the VIP Style Awards.

As her daughter was born on June 28, 2023, the new mother is preparing for Nancy’s first birthday.

“We’re going to have a pizza party at my parents’ house, we’re just going to have a lovely big celebration because it’s been a long year. It’s flown by but it’s been long,” she said.

“Like, women are just amazing. Let me tell you right now. We are the givers of life.

“We do it all - we work our butts off. We have our babies, we get straight back to work, like it is full on.

“I’ve got a newfound respect and appreciation for all the mummies out there for sure,” she said.

She also spoke of her daughter’s “obsession with music” and how she might follow her parents’ footsteps.

“She’s obsessed with music. I’m determined for her to get a normal job - become an engineer or something, don’t follow us, do something normal, have a real job! But you can see it’s in her. You can see she just loves music.

“I was listening to My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast, and she was dancing to the theme music. She’s so obsessed.

“My mum was so funny, she was like, ‘Would you not have her do a bit of modelling?’ I was like. ‘No way, just let her be a kid.”

Bláthnaid said she feels like she’s “falling in love all over again” with her husband Charlie while watching him become a dad.

“Charlie’s besotted. He is in so much trouble when she becomes a teenager. She’s already got him wrapped around her finger. It’s cute,” she said. “I feel like I fall in love with him all over again just watching him being a dad.

“It is the most beautiful thing, seeing him become a dad has been amazing,” she added.
