Another Super Return For Dylan Collins
Dylan Collins, the former rap DJ with a talent for tech, orchestrated another big success in 2020 when he sold SuperAwesome to ‘Fortnite’ developer Epic Games. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but fundraisers in recent years suggest a c.$100m valuation for the venture, which was established by the entrepreneur in 2013.
The business facilitates clients to develop advertising for children’s apps and websites that complies with EU and US laws. Its content delivery platform also enables brands tap into the under-13 cohort with vetted content and marketing.
Collins (41) was previously
involved with salon booking software Phorest, and Demonware, which was acquired by Activision in 2007 for a reported $17m. The entrepreneur then founded Jolt, an online gaming business acquired by GameStop, and was involved in the creation of earlystage investor Hoxton Ventures, whose investment portfolio includes Deliveroo.
Collins anticipated that children would continue to migrate their viewing consumption from TV to online content. The company had equity investment of c.$40m, including $17m raised last January in a funding round led by Microsoft’s venture fund.
According to the founder, SuperAwesome had revenue of $55m (€46m) in 2019, double the outcome the year before. Principal shareholders were Mayfair Equity Partners (26%), Dylan Collins (13%) and the family that owns Lego (6.5%).
