‘We expect big changes in commercial real estate’

OUTLOOK The majority of our clients are international corporates and institutions. The financial services sector is an important area for our firm and within that, asset management is one of our key practice areas. Ireland’s market share as a host country for fund management activity increased in 2020 and there are now over 8,000 investment funds domiciled here, representing over €3 trillion in assets under management.
We expect big changes in commercial real estate, with more demand for short-term flexible lettings and an increase in sublettings. We should see more restructuring and bankruptcy work as a result of Covid, an increase in M&A activity as companies consolidate, and an increase in employment law advisory work and litigation. Brexit should continue to afford Ireland with plenty of opportunities as an English-speaking gateway to the EU market, particularly in financial services.
