AFFINITYEV: PIONEERING COLLABORATION IN SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

-

Founded by Raj Lyons-Chohan, AffinityEV is a leading tech company at the forefront of the automotive and energy sectors, dedicated to digitally connecting stakeholders within these industries to create a cohesive EV ecosystem. We spoke with Raj about his journey and experiences as CEO of AffinityEV.

What inspired you to start your company?

The idea for AffinityEV came from my lifelong goal to lead a global business built across continents. With a strong desire for positive change in the auto and energy industries, I saw AffinityEV as a way to make this happen.

What sustainability issue or challenge is your business addressing?

In the dynamic world of sustainable energy and electric vehicles, two major industries, energy and automotive, are coming together. However, a big problem persists: stakeholders in both industries work independently in a fragmented system. At AffinityEV, we tackle this by digitally connecting all stakeholders through our technology. This solution bridges the gap between energy and automotive and pushes us towards a more sustainable future.

What are your plans for growth in Ireland and overseas?

Moving forward, our primary focus for the upcoming 12 months is significant expansion within the UK and Europe, alongside the highly anticipated launch in the US market. To facilitate these ambitious international growth endeavours, we are gearing up for an imminent investment round. This infusion of capital will furnish us with the necessary resources to effectively execute our strategic expansion initiatives and solidify our already growing presence in these pivotal markets. Our participation in the Bord na Móna Accelerate Green programme positions us in a good place ahead of our upcoming investment round. The combination of the excellent networking opportunities and one-onone mentoring really helps in adding to our sustainability centred business offering.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome since starting your company?

Our most significant hurdle has been pioneering a unique solution within a previously unexplored sector — Auto Energy. Introducing our innovative approach to digitally connecting two Auto and Energy posed a distinct challenge in demonstrating its value to potential clients. Convincing clients of the merits of our solution amidst unfamiliar territory and entrenched norms proved to be a significant task. Nevertheless, despite the ongoing challenge, we remain steadfastly committed to our vision.

What is the best piece of advice you have received as an innovator?

My late grandfather’s wisdom has significantly shaped my approach to entrepreneurship. He imparted a simple yet profound principle: ‘Always put yourself in your customers’ shoes and build from there.’ By empathising with the needs, obstacles, and aspirations of our customers, we acquire insights that shape every phase of our innovation journey, from conception to execution. This ethos not only cultivates a customer-centric approach, but also nurtures a strong bond and trust between our solutions and the individuals we serve.

What advice would you have for other budding entrepreneurs?

Dream big and pursue fearlessly. Embrace challenges as opportunities to innovate and grow, as greatness emerges from pushing boundaries. Stay resilient, learn continuously, and build a supportive network. Entrepreneurship is an exciting journey; embrace it with confidence and commitment to your aspirations.
