WIZARD of new piece of art is unveiled by the banks of Boyne
HARRY Potter actress Evanna Lynch was in town for a very special ‘first’ on Friday when she unveiled ‘ The Wanderer’ - close to St Dominick’s Bridge.
The piece of artwork, funded by the Northern Ireland Arts Council through Europe, has certainly caught the attention.
The artist, Ralf Sander, explained that it depicts a lady walking as you approach from the bridge, or a bird in flight when coming from the Ballsgrove side.
The piece was commissioned by the Drogheda Civic Trust who thanked the people of the town for their support.
Michael O’Dowd remarked ‘We consulted 25 different groups and like all art, some people will love it and some won’t.’
The likes of the Men’s Shed and Boomerang were all involved.
Sean Keenan from the NI Arts Council added they were delighted to be part of the project.
As for Evanna, she said she was delighted to be home and ‘ The Wanderer’ was her first time to undertake such a ceremony.
Surrounded by fans, she spent as much time as needed to sign autographs before going on to explain what life was like after ‘Harry’.
‘My latest film ‘ My Name is Emily’ was part of the Galway Film Fleadh recently so I was home for that.
‘I live in LA and find it a very easy lifestyle, especially due to the nice weather.’
She tends to shy away from the ‘glitz’ and works on getting tapes to producers.
Her long term role is to write a book and her old patch in Greenhills might get a mention.
‘My art teacher, who was there on Friday, Mr McCartan, inspired me,’ she stated. ‘He was always encouraging my crazy, out there ideas. He was always positive.’
Her friend Betha also got a mention as she is now a make up artist and did her make up for the unveiling.
