Sheridan class act for Ardee

-

ARDEE & District AC athletes left an indelible mark on Sunday’s Blackrock AC Annual Cross-Country meeting as they returned home to mid Louth with a hatful of medals.

After a night of ground frost the thaw came before the race start time of midday, making the course perfect underfoot for cross-country racing and Under-9 contender Jessica McCarron had a great race over the 500m course and just missed out on a medal.

The Under-11 boys ran 1,000m and Arthur Sands was the first home for Ardee in sixth place, with brothers Tadhg and Callum Caffery hot on his heels and Dylan McCarron and Charlie Sands close behind. The boys were rewarded for their efforts when the results were tallied as they received a bronze medal for the third team home.

Hallie Sands had a great race in the Girls Under-13 1500m. Pushing herself over the distance, Hallie finished in a podium position in second place. Also running well was Samantha McCarron (6th) Ava McNally and Ruth Gillespie who helped the Ardee girls pick up gold for their team’s first place. Under-13 Boys runners Jack McCarron, Joe Murphy and Callum McCormack each ran well over the 1500m distance.

Emma Gillespie, Charlotte Osborne and Rebecca McCarron competed in the Girls Under-15 2,000m and also got among the medals, scooping bronze for third team.

Last but by no means least was Abbie Sheridan in the Girls Under-17 2,500m. Loving the long-distance races, Abbie was off quickly from the start and never lost her momentum throughout as she finished top of the podium in first place.

Then the Ardee contingent hot-footed it to their cars just as the rain began to fall.
