Clean sweep for Greenhills girls teams

-

IT proved to be a satisfying week for the Our Lady’s College Greenhills basketball teams as they enjoyed a clean sweep of four victories from four games.

First up, St Mary’s travelled to Drogheda from Baldoyle with two teams and the match involving the 2nd Year Junior B teams proved extremely tight, with Our Lady’s letting a seven-point lead slip but hanging on for a 10-9 win in an exciting and tense finish.

The Junior D division 2 match had to be turned into a friendly because two of Our Lady’s team had to withdraw the night before and they had to make up the numbers with three 1st Year players. Nevertheless, the hosts went on to record a handsome victory - 30-4.

The following day the 2nd Year Junior Premier team travelled to St Raphaela’s in Stillorgan and Our Lady’s dominated from the start against a very weak home side side. Ciara NicCriosta was particularly effective and finished top scorer on eight points in a 31-6 away win.

Then on Thursday it was the turn of the 2nd Year Junior C team to make the journey to St Dominic’s in Cabra.

Having lost their first game out they were hoping to turn their fortunes around, and Rachel Matthews and Orlaith Kearney ensured they had a lead at the end of the first quarter - 4-2.

The second quarter was their best as they scored six points without reply, and although St Dominic’s battled back and the Boynesiders failed to score in the final quarter the visitors hung on for the win, 13-8.
