All-Ireland Junior champs prove too strong for Louth

-

fourth minute courtesy of Aisling Grimes, this score came after Louth ‘keeper Alannah Finn made the first of many fine stops as she touched a goalbound shot from Aedin Mimnagh on to the crossbar

This score seemed to settle the midlanders as they took a firm grip on proceedings and hit four points in as many minutes to lead by 0-5 to 0-1 after nine minutes.

Just two minutes later midfielder Jacinta Brady went on a surging run past a couple of defenders before sending her shot into the roof of the Louth net.

They then added a further two points to lead by 1-07 to 0-01 midway through the half.

Louth made a number of substitutions at this stage but it had little effect as the home side continued to dominate and they added a further four points without reply before they had their second goal just before the interval through impressive midfielder Aisling Reynolds to give the blue and gold a very healthy 2-11 to 0-1 lead at half time

Longford began the second half were they left off with an early point, but the Reds replied with their second score as Paula Murray converted a free.

Emer Heaney and Aoife Gregory then swapped points before Michelle Farrell finished off a fine move with a shot into the corner of the Louth net to put Longford into a 3-14 to 0-03 lead on thirty nine minutes.

With the result beyond doubt, and no restrictions on the amount of subs that can be used the respective management teams took the opportunity to gave nearly all of the subs a run-out as the game petered out to it’s inevetable conclusion

Longford who had a big win in their first outing against Antrim have shown at this early stage that they will be the team to watch in this League and have a proven manager in Drumintee native James Daly.

In contrast Louth’s new management team of John O’Leary, Fergal McNally and Roisin Hanlon have had a difficult start. Deprived of a number of the County’s leading player’s for a variety of reasons, they have had to field a very young and inexperienced side.
