Drogs continue scoring streak in pre-season

Doyle opened the scoring and man-of-the-match Efford then made it 2-1 after Cabo had briefly drawn level from the penalty spot.

In the second half McCaffrey hit the post before Doyle tapped iin andd EffEffordd (picturedit­d above)b) struck from 20 yards to make it 4-1. McCaffrey then completed the scoring with a stunning shot from distance after playing a one-two with Nathan Seery.

Seery was a half-time substitute for Jamie Hollywood and fellow local youngsters Emmet Carolan and James Carroll - a 16-year-old son of former Drogs assistant manager and player John Carroll - were also introduced in the second half.

Cabinteely had former Drogs Victor Ekanem and Daire Doyle in theirth starting line-up, while veteran strikerst Jason Byrne came on in the secondse half as a substitute.

Then on Friday night Drogheda continuedc­o their pre-season preparatio­ns ra with a 2-1 win at Carlow IT againsta the team they beat in last November’sN promotion play-off, Wexford Youths, making it three wins in as many days and four on theth bounce in 2017.

Sean Thornton (penalty) and MarcM Griffin were on target in thatth game against a Wexford team which included two of last season’s Drogheda squad - Liam Donnelly and Collon native John McKeown.
