Goal-hungry Square in good shape

-

THERE were goals galore - including a hat-trick from Square United’s Adam Gillespie, in Saturday’s entertaining Under-11 clash against Albion Green in the grounds of Chantry College, Ardee.

On a chilly but sunny morning, Albion started brightly and were unlucky not to take the lead in the early exchanges, but they could find no way past the excellent Oran Martin and Aaron Roddy in the Square United defence.

Just when it appeared Albion were about to take the lead, Square keeper Oisin O’Brien pulled off a magnificent save.

At the other end the home side played some wonderful attacking football, with Josh Taaffe and Andy Murphy linking play and creating numerous chances, one of which fell to the feet of Liam Gorman whose well-struck half-volley found the top corner of the Albion net.

Both teams continued to play excellent football throughout, with plenty of excitement and goals at either end, including that Gillespie hat-trick and a debut goal from teammate Rob Kelly.
