BOY (16) MUGGED IN KNIFE ATTACK

PUNCHED AND ROBBED ON WAY HOME FROM SCHOOL CLOSE TO THE 101 STEPS

- Fiona MAGENNIS

GARDAI are appealing for the public’s help following a vicious attack in which a local schoolboy was threatened at knifepoint and punched in the face for his mobile phone.

The horrific incident happened as the 16-yearold was making his way home from school last Friday shortly after 3pm. He was walking up the 101 steps towards Sunnyside Cottages when he took his phone out to check the time. As he did so, a man attempted to grab the phone from his hand.

The teenager managed to run away but as he did so the attacker grabbed his schoolbag and called to his friend nearby to pass him a knife.

The young man was then threatened with the knife and handed over his mobile phone. The victim was then punched in the face by his attacker who then lef the scene with the youth’s phone, which is valued at €300.

Gardaí described this as a particularly vicious and unprovoked attack on a teenager who was simply making his way home from school and would like to hear from anyone who may have any information on the culprits involved or who may have been in the area at this time.
