Dominant Pat’s off to a flyer

ST PATRICKS DUNDALK YOUNG IRELANDS 3-19 0-7

-

ST Patricks began life under new manager, David Nelson, with a comprehensive victory over Young Irelands in Group E of the Paddy Sheelan Cup.

The game in Lordship on Sunday morning saw the hosts dominate throughout as they ran out comfortable winners.

The Young Irelands arrived on the back of an opening day win over Dreadnots but they never looked like adding the scalp of St Pats.

Paddy Keenan scored the opening goal of the game when he converted from the penalty spot, and just before the break Jason Woods added a second to give his side a commanding 2-8 to 0-2 advantage.

The Dundalk men did raise their game in the second and had Dermot Mone and Shane O’Connell among the scorers. However, it was Pats who continued to dominate and victory was sealed when Patrick Kirk hit the net for the third time five minutes from the end. GLEN Emmets began their season with an impressive win away to Dreadnots on Friday night as they came out on top by two points in this Group E clash.

After losing their opening day fixture to Young Irelands, the Clogherhead men were hoping to bounce back but they were unable to get the better of a determined Emmets side in a tight match.

The decisive score of the game arrived in the opening half when Damien Grimes struck the only goal of the game to help his side lead by 1-2 to 0-2 at the break.

The Dreadnots fought back early in the second half to level with three unanswered points. However, the Tullyallen men soon re-established a two-point advantage and in a low-scoring final quarter they held out until the final whistle.
