With just two points in it and WIT battering at the DKIT rear guard, they won a free 30 metres. With no time left on the clock they dropped it short in a frantic search for a second goal. Meath man John Smith soared through the air to collect they ball before being pushed over the line.

With everyone’s hearts in their mouths the referee blew for a free out and then sounded his final whistle.

Fear turned to joy on the faces of the DkIT players as they punched the air in celebratio­n.

Captain and Monaghan man Kieran Duffy stepped up to collect the Cup while Louth’s Tadhg McEnaeney collected the Man of the Match award, a worthy recognitio­n to his contributi­on of 1-12 over the course of the weekend.
