MARIAN PARK FURY

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

CONCERNED residents in Marian Park are to attend a public meeting on the ongoing works in the area after one resident was left ‘ hemmed in’ for two days.

The woman claimed she had serious difficulties leaving and accessing her home for two days during works being carried out by contractors outside her house.

The woman claimed no information leaflets were dropped around the houses advising residents of the works and the possible disruption to acess to their homes.

‘ There is a massive lack of communication,’ she said.

A public meeting has now been organised to address the issues caused by these works around town. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 14th in The Westcourt Hotel at 7.30pm.

Members of the public are encouraged to raise issues of concern at this event. Representatives from companies involved as well as officials from Louth County Council have all been invited to attend. A number of Marian Park residents contacted Cllr Frank Godfrey to complain about inconvenience caused by the works carried out which has seen footpaths dug up, and in some cases, car ramps not being reinstated correctly to driveways.

Others have complained about cracks in house and garden walls and pillars due to the use of jack hammers to break the paths. ‘With two of the biggest upgrading jobs currently being carried out in Drogheda, I’m hoping that it will bring some local jobs and employment and not just feature ‘out-of-towners’, said Cllr Godfrey.

‘I’m calling on the Louth County Council’s new Clerk of Works, David Fallon, to ensure that work is being carried out to the highest standard, and is being finished off properly to the satisfaction of the residents.’

He said that while there was no objection to the works, the disruption caused was unnacceptable.

?? ?? The lack of ‘ramps’ to allow access to driveways has caused problems for some residents in Marian Park after recent works in the area.
