DORIS PAYS A VISIT

-

STORM Doris wreaked havoc throught the north east region last week with roads left impassable as a result of fallen tree, many households left without electricity over the midterm break and damage caused to countless homes, buildings and structures.

The M1 was closed for some time after a truck overturned. Even the iconic Tholsel building on West Street fell victim to the high winds with damage caused to the area just above the clock. Drogheda Fire Brigade attended the scene after concerned members of the public raised the alarm.

A hydraulic platform was used to make the scene safe and the street was closed for about an hour on Thursday morning while the work was carried out.

The emergency services were kept busy throughout the day with power lines, trees and billboards blown over in many areas causing dangerous conditions for many motorists.

A number of estates and rural areas around Drogheda were left without power throughout the day on Thursday as ESB crews were dispatched and worked tirelessly and in difficult conditions to return power to homes as quickly as they could.

Pedestrians on Scarlet Street had a lucky escape when a part of the footpath at the junction with Francis Street lifted, bringing with it a large sign.
