DIARY
YOU often spot family memorials to those deceased, but St Peter’s Church of Ireland cemetery on Peter Street features a company’s tribute to one of its members.
I have to say, I don’t know an awful lot about the Drogheda Mechanics Institute, but when their secretary, William Lenard died in 1855, they vowed not to forget him.
In the cemetery, above his grave, is a monument to William and dedicated by the Institute.
From what I can find, Mechanics Institutes were keen to develop adult education, in terms of providing libraries and information.
Could be a story in that alone.
Crafy Fox worth a look
IF you have a few crafty foxes at home, then a perfect Easter camp could be for you on Shop Street. The acclaimed Crafty Fox is hosting an Easter Camp from April 18-21 from 2-4pm each day.
From seeing their work, these people know their stuff.
Barry Seagrave and NYC link
I believe a great man promoting Ireland and Drogheda 50 years ago was New York based Barry Seagrave. Barry was a native of Scarlet Street and worked for Bord Failte over there.
Boyle’s of Slane award
WELL done to Boyles of Slane on their award for their great promotion of live music. The place is a hive of entertainers and talent and long may it be a success story.
