Multi-cultural group wanted for Culture Connect entry

-

PEOPLE of all nationalities are being urged to take part in the Drogheda St Patrick’s Day Parade, dressed in their national costumes if possible, by Culture Connect who have organised a multi-ethnic section in the parade.

“We hope that as many of the many different communities in town will be represented and those who do not have a national costume can join in carrying the flag of the land of their birth. Taking part in the parade is an ideal way to encourage community unity,” said a spokesperson.

Those wishing to be part of the Culture Connect group should gather in front of the Culture Connect offices beside the entrance to the Barbican Centre at 11 am on St Patrick’s Day.

Culture Connect, which provides a wide variety of services and activity aimed at encouraging integration in Drogheda is also organising a post-parade celebration in the St Peters Church of Ireland hall and grounds which is open to the public.

There will be music, dance and food from various countries on offer and while entrance is free there will be a small charge for food items which incude Indian snacks, African meat pies, German and Albanian pastries and for those of plainer tastes – hot dogs and hamburgers.

Also on the menu will be bands from Croatia and Poland and some Irish music as well as Nicaraguan, Colombian and hip hop dance.

“We are hoping to make this an annual feature of St Patrick’s Day and we would encourage everyone to join in,” the spokesperson added.
