Discipline vital for trip to Derry

-

look at us and the difference in the finances, I can’t be too despondent because the players are giving everything we could ask of them.

‘I think we are getting the best out of them and that’s what good management is about.

‘We have some important, exciting games coming ahead and at the end of the month, after we’ve played Derry, Bohemians and Dundalk, we will have a better idea of where we are.’

Mahon made a point of referring to some crowd trouble that happened after the final whistle against Cork City on Friday night, and called on all Drogheda fans to behave in future.

‘We need all the supporters we can get and they are doing a tremendous job and giving great support to the team, but they can’t be getting the club fined and into disrepute. It’s a struggle from month to month to keep the club going and I would appeal to keep giving the team support without any trouble.’

Luke Gallagher lies suspended following his red card on Monday, Killian Brennan remains sidelined with a long-term injury, Conor Kane will be away on Under-19 international duty and Gareth McCaffrey is doubtful after taking a heavy knock, while there are also doubts about other players due to illness.

‘I think I brought a bit of a bug into the camp,’ Mahon admitted. ‘I’ve been unwell for the last 10 days and Gavin Brennan, Killian Brennan and Kevin Farragher have been under the weather, which is why they weren’t there in Bray. Mine is on the way out now, but I’m hoping nobody else gets it.’

Stephen Elliott, who was rested because of a hamstring strain on Monday, comes back into contention, and Richie Purdy should be available after suspension.

Next Tuesday the Drogs play host to Bray Wanderers in the first round of the EA Sports Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
