Jubilant Greenhills return to top flight

-

Lead player Peter was instrumental in getting the hosts back into the game, with two fine back-hand draw shots to the jack levelling the match after four ends.

The game ebbed and flowed, but with two ends remaining it was Sean and Jim who edged two up. Peter and Jack were under pressure at this stage, but they managed to get their act together and after firing into the head in the last end they stole victory by three shots.

In the trips match played over nine ends the Greenhills team were Ciara Floyd (juvenile), Jimmy Flood and Tom Devin, but it was the visitors’ skip Donald Quigley who found the line of the mat quickest and he went three up after two ends.

Greenhills were not at their free-flowing best, yet they still managed to level the match after four ends, before falling two behind once more.

The hosts’ confidence was very low at this stage, but then skip Tom Devin rallied the troops and this will go down as one of the best smash-and-grabs of the campaign as Greenhills somehow managed to attain a two-shot victory by taking the last two ends.

Greenhills chairman John Hurley stated in his address that it was a great challenge for the club throughout the season to return to the top flight, and he said it was great credit that the players stuck to the task and it was very exciting to have another crack at the First Division. He also thanked the ladies for providing the after-match teas throughout the season and the markers for looking after all the games.
