Termonfeckin made to suffer ‘Mor heartache

-

MUIRHEVNAMOR performed a last-gasp smash and grab to leave their luckless opponents Termonfeckin aghast at not at least earning a draw from this game with the leaders of the Dundalk Under-16 Premier Division.

Instead the win yielded a double bonus for the winners who moved into outright leadership of the table, with Quay - who they shared the top spot with prior to this game - suffering a surprise 3-2 defeat by Rock Celtic the same night.

The south Louth side, who sit one place off the bottom of the table, took the lead which was no more than they deserved 10 minutes into the second half, with Izaac Borg - who was a dominant figure in the game - heading home the rebound after home goalkeeper Precious Kent saved Richard Clinton’s shot.

He himself spurned one of two fine scoring opportunities that Termonfeckin created in the first half, when the home side’s sole time to threaten was when Jamie Mulligan struck the visitors crossbar and then was thwarted by Termonfeckin goalkeeper Josh Kirwan as he tried to score at the second attempt.

Termonfeckin continued to have more of the possession in the second half, with Borg controlling the midfield exchanges.

He twice set up scoring chances for teammate Richard Clinton, who was unable to avail of them, and his side paid a heavy cost.

Oisin Morrow equalised 13 minutes from time when he hooked the ball through a crowded goalmouth into the visitors’ net after they failed to deal with a corner kick.

Still Termonfeckin continued to take the game to the leaders and went close with a shot, only for the decisive goal to follow from the resulting kickout.

Muirhevnamor pushed forward centre-half Joshua Ayoub and he chased the ball and held it up before rolling it into the path of Sean Hill who let fly from outside the box and his shot flew into the top corner of the net.

There was just time for Termonfeckin to kick off when referee Colm McConville blew the full-time whistle.
