Distance no object for Boyne clubmates

-

A SMALL but mighty group of senior runners from Boyne AC revelled in the spring sunshine as they joined more than 1,200 other competitors for the Bohermeen Half Marathon and 10k on Sunday last.

In near-perfect weather conditions, the 10k got under way first, with Sally Clarke back in action again following her recent thirdplace finish in Carlingford. This time a 20-second improvement in her time saw her finish sixth lady and fourth in her category, crossing the line in a fine 42:32.

The half-marathoners then took to the roads, with Nicki Veale the first lady home for the club in a super time of 1:59:51. Many months of training and determination certainly paid dividends for Karen Fairclough as she crossed the line in her first half-marathon in 2:05:57, followed closely by another debutant over the distance, Gabbie White, in 2:08:52.

The ever-smiling Tara McCullough was delighted to see the finish line as she raced under the gantry in a time of 2:11:02.

As the road race season firmly takes hold again, Boyne AC held a club run of the Coca-Cola Boyne 10k route on Sunday last, in preparation for the event on April 30th.

Joined by fellow runners from Drogheda & District AC, the early morning run certainly set the training wheels in motion for what is sure to be another fantastic event. Entries can be made on line at www.boyne10k.ie.
